The organization depends on two large fundraisers every year, along with community donations to maintain its growing operating budget. In addition to providing emergency medical care, the Post is also visible in the community as a training center for First Aid, CPR and AED training for adults and children, blood pressure screening, tours and introductions to scout troops, and as EMT stand-by for sporting events including: DHS football and ice hockey games, Challenger Games, Darien Junior Football games, and community events such as the Darien Road Race, ITP Triathlon, and the Ox Ridge Horse Show.
The Memorial Day Food Fair and Community Celebrationat Tilly Pond Park is a day of celebration and excitement for the town of Darien. Post 53 members work year round to prepare for this day of food, live entertainment, games, ambulance tours, and a silent auction. The famous food tents include food from local vendors and Post 53’s own recipies. The event is a day of fun for the entire family and helps to maintain Darien EMS’s free service to the town of Darien.
Post 53 young adults provide EMT stand by for sporting events including: DHS football and ice hockey games, Challenger Games, Darien Junior Football games and community events such as the Darien Road Race,
ITP Triathlon and Ox Ridge Horse Show.
Posties also enjoy sharing their knowledge and introducing the community to Post and what they do. Children can see the ambulance at events such as the Big Rig Gig and attend the annual Post Haunted House in the fall.
Darien EMS young adults provide free blood pressure screening every Sunday from 10AM to noon at the Post headquarters, Zero Ledge Road.
